KAYAK ROLLING LESSONS - SEA KAYAKING SAFETY |
| Maine Kayak is pleased to take advantage of the off-season as a perfect opportunity for paddlers to brush up on their kayaking skills, learn new safety and rescue techniques, and enjoy an evening of paddling instruction in the safety and comfort of an indoor, heated swimming pool. We offer whitewater kayaking rolling clinics and sea kayaking safety clinics from October to April for individuals to learn or refine their kayaking skills. LEARN THE ESKIMO ROLL IN THE COMFORT OF AN INDOOR POOL |
This 2-hour clinic introduces participants to the essential self-rescue technique – the Eskimo Roll. This clinic focuses on breaking down the fundamentals of rolling a capsized kayak into an upright position into a three step process – the setup, the sweep, and the hip snap. Participants will receive instructions on proper boat outfitting; body balance and positioning; paddle placement; and bracing to help prevent capsizes. Focus is on participant safety and comfort – courses are taught by a licensed and certified ACA kayaking instructor and Maine State whitewater guide; are held in an indoor, heated pool; and all equipment and safety gear is provided.
Clinic Requirements: Participants should be able to demonstrate basic boat-handling skills and paddle strokes. Participants should bring their own equipment and personal paddling gear, if possible.

SEA KAYAKING SAFETY ESSENTIALS CLINIC |
This 2-hour clinic introduces participants to the basics of sea kayaking rescue techniques for both self and assisted sea kayak rescues. This course will instruct participants on proper boating terms; touring boat design and function; equipment transporting techniques; boat outfitting and proper boat balance. Participants will learn how to enter and exit a kayak properly including the wet-exit. Safety rescues taught will include the paddle float self-rescue and the assisted T rescue. Focus is on participant safety and comfort – courses are taught by a licensed and certified ACA instructor and Maine State sea kayaking guide; are held in an indoor, heated pool; and all equipment and safety gear is provided.
